S e cànan Ceiltich a th ann an Gàidhlig, a thàinig gu Alba à Èirinn mu 1,500 bliadhna air ais. Ann an Alba fhèin, tha barrachd is 58, 000 duine aig a bheil Gàidhlig.  Tha 61 ionadan / bun-sgoiltean Gàidhlig agus 38 àrd-sgoiltean ann a tha a teagaisg Gàidhlig.

S e Sabhal Mòr Ostaig OGE anns an Eilean Sgitheanach an aon cholaiste Ghàidhlig san t-saoghal a tha a liubhairt chothroman foghlaim aig àrd-ìre tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

Gaelic is a Celtic language which was brought to Scotland by settlers from Ireland around 1,500 years ago. In Scotland alone, there are more than 58,000 Gaelic speakers, 61 Gaelic medium units / primary schools, and 38 secondary schools which teach Gaelic as a subject.

Based on the Isle of Skye, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the National Centre for the Gaelic language and culture. The college is an academic partner within the University of the Highlands and Islands and is the only college in the world of its kind; providing further and higher education through the medium of Scottish Gaelic.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig offers a range of short courses, distance learning opportunities and full time undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes.
